Speaking Engagements

Women in tech are hungry for financial advice.
Happily, I love hearing people’s stories and demystifying money.

Bring me into your company or organization to talk with women in tech about the issues they care about: stock compensation, balancing competing financial demands, their 401(k), and their role in the tech industry.

I am based in Bellingham, WA and am happy to travel to you. (During times of pandemic and quarantine, this isn’t available.) I am also available for video presentations, if you’re far away or simply prefer the Virtual Meg.

Audiences clamor for guidance on these topics.

    Understanding and Optimizing Your 401(k)

Despite all the mania over company stock, your 401(k) is still your most likely path to wealth. Tech-company 401(k)s are generally pretty great, but all the features can overwhelm.
You will learn both the basics of 401(k)s—saving, investing, match, fees—and also the “advanced” features so common in tech-company 401(k)s, like rollover contributions the mega backdoor Roth, and what to do if you still have more money to save. And you will learn all of this in a context of “Yes, but what does it mean for me?”

Your Company is Going IPO. What Should You Do with Your Equity?

Congratulations! Finally, this company stock might be worth real money. IPOs bring with them a lot of moving parts and unknowns: lockup periods, IPO price, tax liability, and future stock performance. Maybe you have options, maybe RSUs, maybe both!

I help you understand how it works—especially taxes—and what the possible outcomes are. And then we take that understanding and figure out how you can use this opportunity to best support your ideal life.

Restricted Stock Units: Make the Most of Yours

Do you receive Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) from your company or have you received a job offer that includes them? Are you not quite sure how much they’re worth, how they work, and how best to use them?

I explain how they work, in both public and private companies, especially when it comes to taxes. Most importantly, I provide a framework for making the best decisions—for your finances and life—with the RSUs you have or could negotiate for.

People are often uncomfortable with their personal finances. And I get it! It can be scary, overwhelming, and booooring. Although it’s a serious topic, when I talk about finances, I don’t take myself too seriously (some people have even accused me of being witty) and use big words only when they’re Just Plain Awesome.

    How much does it cost?

$400-1000, plus travel expenses, depending on the duration and enrollment.
